Understanding The ECO 4 Scheme
The ECO4 Program was launched in April 2022, taking the place of previous government initiatives designed to assist households with low incomes, in minimizing their heating expenses. Keep in mind that having energy-efficient homes not only reduces costs but also enhances your overall quality of life, offering comfort, warmth, and peace of mind. To determine a property’s eligibility for the ECO4 Scheme, the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating is essential. The government mandates an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) whenever a property is constructed, sold, or rented. The EPC provides insights into your home’s energy consumption and associated expenses while also offering suggestions for reducing energy usage to save money.
Understanding Your EPC (Energy Performance Certificate)
An EPC is a document that provides information about a property’s energy efficiency, including its current and potential energy ratings, estimated energy costs, and recommendations for improvements. Customers will receive one on a survey if they already do not have one.
What it shows:

- Estimated energy costs for heating, lighting, and hot water.

There are 7 bands in total (A-G), from most efficient to least efficient; the bands that currently qualify are the properties rated D, E F and G. In order to improve your property’s EPC rating, we have to focus on energy efficiency measures like loft wall insulation, upgrading to energy-efficient appliances and lighting, and potentially installing renewable energy sources. These can boost your SAP (Standard Assessment Procedure Rating).
